The long winter is finally over, and everyone at Arc at Old Colony is ready to get out on the town and celebrate the coming of warmer, sunnier days ahead. Lucky for you, Chi-Town has endless options for spring cheer.
What Exhibits Are Happening in Chicago This Spring?
The Art Institute of Chicago recently reopened its Monet and Chicago exhibit. The Art Institute was the first museum in America to purchase one of Monet’s paintings, and it has since acquired a large collection – the largest, in fact, of any museum outside of Paris. This exhibit features over 70 paintings and drawings, including many from the famous Stacks of Wheat collection.
Also at the Art Institute, check out Bisa Butler: Portraits, a collection of portrait quilts that explore cultural, historical, and personal stories of Black lives.
And if you can manage to snag a ticket in time, don’t miss Germania Club’s Immersive van Gogh, featuring 500,000 cubic feet of projections of van Gogh’s paintings, creating the experience of observing the painting from the inside.
Just remember to purchase tickets for these events ahead of time and bring a mask.
Does Chicago Have any Fun Springtime Traditions?
Join the Shamrock Shuffle from March 19-21. This is typically a huge 8K race and a favorite way for Chicagoans to kick off the spring season. This year, you’ll still have the opportunity to participate through their virtual format, in which runners log their individual distance and time, taking their own routes in their neighborhoods, for a safe experience. All you have to do is register, come up with your own route, and make it a virtual race weekend to remember.
Where’s the Best Spring Eating in Chicago?
Enjoy a vintage eating experience at Superdawg Drive-In, a Chi-Town staple since 1948. They have some of the best hot dogs in the city.
Try some of the most authentic Mexican cuisine at Carnitas Uruapan. Locals love the pork tacos, which come with the “deconstructed” option so you can fill the tortillas with as much pulled pork as you like.
And if you’d rather celebrate more quietly, stay home and take in the South Loop views from Arc at Old Colony’s scenic rooftop lounge. Our luxury student housing community is the ultimate home base for those attending University of Illinois at Chicago or other Loop U institutions.
